Synopsis
Tante Novi and her three friends share a cheerful evening of conversation around the dining table until a sudden blackout interrupts their chatter. Someone strikes a match and lights a candle, turning the lively gathering into a quiet, intimate circle. In the warm glow, Tante Novi meets her friends’ eyes with a knowing smile. With everyone’s attention now hers, she begins the story they have been waiting to hear.
Story Draft
The dining room is warm with light and overlapping conversation. Tante Novi and her three friends sit around the table, trading remarks, laughing, and interrupting one another with the ease of people who know each other well. Novi is especially animated, her expressions drawing fresh laughter before she has even finished speaking. Then the lights go out. Their conversation breaks off in surprise. In the darkness, someone lets out a small laugh; another asks where the matches are. A brief search follows, accompanied by the scrape of a chair and a few good-natured comments across the table. A match flares. For a moment, its small light catches a hand and the edge of a face. Then the candle takes, and a steady glow spreads across the tabletop. They settle back into their chairs. Beyond the candle, the familiar room fades into shadow, but around it their faces are close and clear. The interruption has softened the evening. No one rushes to fill the silence.
